Monovision - LasikPlus Treatment Options
Vision Correction Based On Your Needs.
Many times between the ages of 40 and 50, people develop the need for reading glasses. The term used to describe this condition is Presbyopia.
Why Does Presbyopia Happen?
As a person ages the lens of the eye becomes less flexible so that we have trouble focusing on near objects. In Monovision, or Autovision, the LASIK surgeon corrects the dominant eye for distance and slightly under-corrects the non-dominant eye so that it is focused at a near distance. Typically, the brain easily adapts and automatically makes the adjustment. When the patient looks in the distance, the distance eye is at work. When the patient looks down to read, the eye corrected for reading does the work.
Would I Be a Good Candidate for Monovision?
Many patients enjoy Monovision because it eliminates the need for bifocals. Monovision is a safe, effective, and permanent option. There is a small percentage of patients that cannot adjust to Monovision - in these cases, your LASIK doctor would correct the under-treated eye.
Our LasikPlus doctors can help you learn more about this option and provide a simulation to experience Monovision prior to surgery.
