IntraLase® – What is it?

The IntraLase laser is the latest breakthrough in LASIK procedure technology.

LasikPlus® continually evaluates advanced technologies and only invests in them when they have developed a history of proven benefits. We trust IntraLase technology because it is FDA-approved and has been commercially available since 2001. It provides greater precision, safety and predictability.

All LASIK procedures are a two-step process:

First, a flap of corneal tissue must be created. The cornea is the transparent front part of the eye that covers the iris and pupil. Once the flap is created it is folded back to prepare the eye for the second step

Next, an excimer laser is used on the inner cornea to correct vision. When this part of the procedure is finished, the corneal flap is folded back into position to act as a delicate bandage over the treated area enabling rapid recovery.

IntraLase is an extremely advanced laser.

All-Laser LASIK with IntraLase uses lasers to create the corneal flap and perform the vision correction. Previously, the first step (creating the corneal flap) was done manually with a hand-held device, called a microkeratome. Though the microkeratome method is still an approved method, the IntraLase laser is documented to be safer because it uses a precise computer-controlled beam of light to create the flap. This is now the most minimally invasive, most sophisticated approach for LASIK.
